VIN Number 9 Years, 4 Months ago
General Question on the VIN Numbers for the 1964 2+2.

Thanks to Members of the 2+2 Registry I have deciphered the date of production of my car.

Next trivia question is;

If 1964 was the first year of the 2+2 Catalina.

And only 7998 units were produced.

Does the VIN Number indicate which unit my car is?

My car was produced 3/10/1964 with a VIN # 8 3 4 P 1 6 3 2 8 1

Does the VIN indicate which of the 7998 my car is?

If not can any one shed some light on the VIN number sequence !

Appreciate,
Curtis

I believe that the digits following the assembly plant code (in your car's case, P = Pontiac, MI) are assigned in sequence for all Pontiac's of that model year, not just 2+2's. Others will know more definitively - try asking PHS.
There are currently 20 '64 2+2's on the Registry, once one eliminates several duplicate registrations. As near as I can determine (which is not necessarily accurate because there is no way to make certain that owners register with a correct VIN) your car's serial number falls in the middle of those 20. Given that and the March production date, one could reasonably assume that it falls somewhere in the middle of the total '64 2+2 production.
